Systran's I/O Solutions

Systran Corporation

More and more systems and design engineers are streamlining their systemsinput/output (I/O) components with Systran's series of general-purposeI/O interfaces. Systran's I/O Solutions now include manydigital/discrete or analog I/O interfaces; plus counter/timers, toolkitsand carriers - and the series will keep growing in months to come. Tohelp maximize your system performance, Systran's line of I/O Solutions isconfigured to the IndustryPack(IP) hardware standard. In this guide, you'll see some of the benefits you'll realize with Systran's I/OSolutions. IP Modules Save Space, Time and Money: When it comes to I/Oboard-level hardware, there are two basic formats available - host-basedI/O and mezzanine I/O. Host-based boards fit into one of the slots on thebackplane of your computer. Mezzanine or 'daughter' boards ride on acarrier that fits in the backplane. Each card in Systran's I/O Solutionsseries is a mezzanine board built to the widely-used IndustryPack LogicInterface Specification. So it fits any IP carrier, anywhere in theworld. IP Modules Allow You to Innovate: Designed to support a widevariety of basic I/O applications, IP modules offer many designadvantages over the traditional host-based I/O format. These includehigher density, software transportability, cross-platform compatibility, and greater modularity per slot. High Density: Systran IP boards supportup to 50 I/O points, and are only about the size of a business card. Thesmall form factor promotes the high density needed to efficiently use allavailable space. For example, our ISA carrier supports six IP modules, providing up to 300 I/O points in a single computer bus slot. DesignFlexibility: IPs provide greater flexibility than traditional host-basedI/O boards. In a system with multiple platforms, the same IP can be usedon any computer with an available IP carrier. If your platform shouldchange in the future, the IP modules can still be used with a newcarrier. This protects your investment in I/O hardware and software andeliminates the cost of replacing the I/O modules used. Since the registerinterface does not change, much of the software can be easily ported tothe new computer platform. Carriers that support multiple IP slots maybe set up as you choose. This allows many more variations per slot thanare available with traditional bus-specific and I/O-type-specific boards.Mezzanine Boards: Systran's IP mezzanine boards offer a fast, low costway to expand the capabilities of your existing system. They're easy toinstall, and easy to use. Mezzanine boards have become a popularalternative to host-based I/O because they let you add useful functionsto your system without an expensive redesign. With the wide variety ofIP mezzanine boards now available internationally, you can customize theinterface to your specific requirements using low-cost, off-the-shelfboards. With all these benefits, it's clear why IP mezzanine boards arethe format of choice for Systran's I/O Solutions, and why you shouldchoose Systran for your high-performance applications.
